Director of Marketing
QBench is a fast-growing vertical SaaS company serving the scientific, laboratory, and operations-driven industries. We help labs and scientific organizations run efficiently, stay compliant, and focus on what matters most. We are data-driven, customer-obsessed, and passionate about building software that makes a meaningful impact.
We are hiring our first in-house Director of Marketing to build a world-class marketing engine—starting as a hands-on individual contributor and quickly evolving into a team-building leadership role.
About the role
We’re looking for a strategic, data-driven marketing leader who has built and scaled demand generation programs in vertical SaaS environments. You will take over relationships with two external marketing consultants (demand-gen + brand), build the inbound engine that fuels our pipeline, and ultimately grow a high-performing marketing team.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in creating structure from ambiguity, enjoys owning measurable results, and has a deep passion for generating high-quality leads and revenue impact.
What You’ll Do:
Build and Own an Effective Inbound Demand Generation Engine
- Develop, implement, and optimize strategies that increase high-quality demo requests, MQLs, and marketing-sourced pipeline.
- Identify and scale winning channels across paid, organic, content, and partnerships.
- Set and manage quarterly inbound funnel targets (volume and efficiency).
Optimize Inbound Lead Quality & Efficiency
- Track and improve CPC, CPL, CAC payback, and channel ROI.
- Conduct A/B tests to refine messaging, audiences, and offers.
- Reduce channel waste and drive consistent improvements in inbound efficiency.
Maintain & Evolve Brand Strategy
- Manage the external brand consultant and ensure consistent brand execution.
- Determine when to transition brand work fully in-house and build a sustainable long-term brand strategy.
Build a Content Engine that Fuels Inbound
- Develop content aligned with funnel stages—including SEO, thought leadership, case studies, and guides.
- Oversee an editorial calendar and maintain consistent content velocity.
Ensure Message-Market Fit for Our ICPs
- Refine messaging frameworks tailored to scientific operations, labs, and adjacent verticals.
- Partner with Sales to deliver collateral that supports the full customer journey.
- Conduct market research to ensure we have and maintain a deep understanding of our ICP and focus segments.
Expand QBench’s Presence in Target Markets
- Increase awareness and prospect engagement through events, content, PR, and partnerships.
- Drive growth in branded organic search and inbound traffic from priority industries.
Build & Own Marketing Analytics Strategy
- Own the design of dashboards for MQL volume, demo requests, CPL/CPQ, pipeline sourced, influenced ARR, and payback metrics.
- Partner with RevOps to define leading indicators and improve forecast accuracy.
Align Marketing KPIs with Revenue Leadership
- Collaborate with the CRO and RevOps to set quarterly KPIs.
- Provide weekly reporting and insights to support budget planning and resource allocation.
Build & Lead a High-Performing Marketing Team (Future Responsibility)
- Identify hiring needs and design the future marketing org structure.
- Own recruiting, onboarding, and management of future team members.
Establish Scalable Processes & Operating Rhythms
- Develop repeatable workflows for campaign planning, reporting, and content operations.
- Implement tools that support efficiency, visibility, and scale.
Own & Optimize the Marketing Budget
- Allocate spend across channels, vendors, and tools; monitor budget vs. actuals.
- Continuously improve ROI in top channels.
Set Up Marketing Operations Infrastructure
- Manage tools and integrations across CRM, automation, and attribution.
- Define processes for lead scoring, routing, and lifecycle tracking.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Self-Direction & Ownership Mindset: Thrives as the first in-house marketing hire, drives initiatives independently, and excels in ambiguous environments.
- Entrepreneurial Bias Toward Action: Acts quickly, iterates rapidly, and prefers building over planning endlessly.
- Analytical Instinct: Naturally sees patterns in data, grasps funnel dynamics, and uses insights to guide decisions.
- Learning Agility & Cognitive Flexibility: Absorbs new industries, tools, and technical products quickly—and adjusts strategy as new information emerges.
- Strategic Demand Generation Architecture: Experience designing and scaling a full-funnel inbound engine that reliably sources pipeline.
- Data-Driven Insight Development: Ability to interpret funnel performance, diagnose bottlenecks, and translate analytics into revenue-impacting decisions.
- Message-Market Fit Development: Experience refining ICP and persona-specific messaging and supporting Sales with high-quality collateral.
- Marketing Org Design & Talent Development: Experience planning and building teams, hiring specialists, and coaching individuals as the org scales.
- Marketing Automation & Tool Proficiency: Comfort with marketing tools, CRM workflows, automation, and dashboards.
- Campaign Execution & Experimentation: Experience launching and optimizing multi-channel campaigns and running A/B tests.
- SEO & Content Operations: Foundational understanding of SEO, content planning, and editorial processes.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Ability to manage external agencies and transition work in-house.
Qualifications:
- 7–12+ years of progressive marketing experience, ideally in vertical SaaS; LIMS experience is a bonus.
- Proven track record owning and scaling demand generation programs.
- Demonstrated success in a first in-house marketing hire or "builder" role.
- Experience using data to set strategy, run experiments, and measure impact.
- Experience working closely with Sales and RevOps in a revenue-aligned GTM motion.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Prior experience managing and developing a team (or strong potential to do so quickly).
Why Join QBench?
- Build the entire marketing function from the ground up.
- Join a profitable, fast-growing vertical SaaS company with a big opportunity ahead.
- Work with a highly collaborative Revenue, Product, and Operations leadership team.
- Make a measurable impact on pipeline, revenue, and the future of the business.
- Competitive compensation, benefits, and opportunities for rapid advancement.
Salary Range: 140,000 - 180,000
